Address and LocationDe Montfort University (DMU) is a ten-minute walk from Leicester's bustling city centre. Comprising ten modern halls of residence, DMU offers a state-of-the-art teaching environment in the heart of the UK.
Background and HistoryNamed after the founder of the first English parliament in 1265, De Montfort University has gone through a series of evolutions since being founded in 1869 as Leicester School of Art. DMU was eventually given university status in 1992. Since it inception, DMU has been an asset to the Leicestershire region, contributing £390m a year to the UK economy.
Location and Accessibility
By road: Leicester is easily reached from the M1, A1, M69 and M6. On entering the city centre, university car parks are clearly signposted. The city also operates a Park and Ride system.
By rail: Leicester is included on many intercity routes and can be reached from any UK region without difficulty. From Leicester station, DMU is a short walk along Granby and Belvoir Street.
