Background and HistoryHarper Adams opened to six students in 1901 after Thomas Harper, a Shropshire gentleman farmer, bequeathed the estate. In 1915 Harper Adams admitted women into the college on wartime farm courses, making it the first institute to do so. Degree courses were first introduced in 1981, but it was not until 2012 that Harper Adams received the title 'university', making it the first university in Shropshire. The Sunday Times named Harper Adams as the 'Best University College' each year from 2008 to 2012.
