Background and HistorySheffield Hallam's origins go back to 1843, when Sheffield School of Design opened at the height of the industrial revolution. The institute gained university status in 1969 after merging with Sheffield College of Art and Design. Sheffield Hallam in its current guise was founded in 1992.
Location and Accessibility
By rail: Hallam's City Campus is across the road from Sheffield station. Leave the station via Sheaf Square fountain then cross Howard Street. Collegiate Crescent Campus is a 20-minute walk from the same

By road: Both campuses are easily accessible via the A61. Parking at the City Campus is easy using the many nearby pay-and-display car parks. There is less space at Collegiate Crescent

Entry RequirementsSheffield Hallam uses the UCAS tariff system but uses flexible criteria when considering candidates. The university finds value in extra-curricular activity and commitment to future studies - if you've done work experience, make sure the university knows!
Incoming students have a huge choice of accommodation, the majority being less than a ten-minute walk from the City Campus. Room choices at the Collegiate Campus are more limited.
For second and third years, the most popular areas for rental are Ecclesall Road, Shoreham Street and Broomhall. Broomhall is the cheapest, Eccleshall offers the most choice.

Sheffield Hallam's research specialities include material science, art and design, sports science, engineering, biomedicine, and economics.
Undergraduate courses currently cost £9,000 per year. Fees for international students and postgraduates vary according to course.

Academic FacilitiesThe university has two main libraries: the Adsetts Centre on the City Campus and Collegiate Learning Centre at Collegiate Crescent. Both libraries are open seven days a week during term-time, with 24-hour access from Sunday to Thursday.
Other On-Site AmenitiesDominating the City Campus, HUBs is home to the Sheffield Hallam Students' Union. Inside is a bar and nightclub, shop, societies, volunteering service and a student advice centre.
Medical and Social Care
The university's health service is on Pond Street, and open to all students living within three miles of the city centre. A multi-faith chaplaincy is available at the City Campus.
What's on in the Area
West Street and Division Street provide a long stretch of bars and restaurants, famous music venues are scattered across the city. The city's indoor shopping centre, Meadowhall (Meadowhell depending on your thoughts on shopping) is home to almost 300 stores for weekend visits.
The university provides an excellent range of careers services, from one-on-one counselling to careers fairs throughout the academic year. In 2011, the university was short-listed for a Times Higher Education Award for its innovative' networking with regional and national employers.
