Nursing Personal Statement

Sample Nursing Personal Statement

Child Nursing has, simply and overtly, been my passion since I was a child. However, over the years while working and caring at length with children, I have truly realised the genuine magnitude of my desire to achieve success in a career that enables me to help and care for people, in particular, children. I am planning to return to education and am unwavering in my pursuit of a career as a registered child nurse.

I have spent my entire adult life working with and around children of all abilities, ages, and cultures. I am a mother, an Ofsted-registered Child minder and a school classroom assistant where I have taken on and achieved qualifications in Child Protection and general first aid. I am responsible for assisting three children with varying degrees of Autism and two children who are disabled due to being born very premature. My personal experience of premature twins and their individual journey of development have enabled me to successfully help these children and enhance their learning by recognising the signs they exude.

I have also been accepted to work voluntarily for by a charity. They have requested that I offer my help and experience to families with at least one child under the age of five and give them any emotional and physical support they require. I will also assist families with multiple new births to give them some advice about surviving the initial stages; this is a challenge that I am very much looking forward to and feel competent in tackling.

I plan to continue to symbiotically study and work, as I believe the experience is beneficial to my knowledge and career. Upon completion of my degree, I aspire to work as a registered children’s nurse specifically working in a neonatal unit with premature babies as it has been confirmed to be on numerous occasions that this is where my passion and talent in life lies. I feel that I would be able to empathize with the parents and families of these children as a result of my own experiences and have the understanding of the medical and biological element as well as the emotional strain these situations have on families.

By caring for a diverse spectrum of children, I have gained valuable and tangible knowledge that will aid me in my studies. My experiences have improved my prospective nursing capabilities as the constant hands-on work has taught me to be resilient, how to read children and situations and how to react quickly and successfully in an emergency.

I am also reading journals and new publications constantly for example the RCN journal to enhance my learning and to keep informed in regards to current medical developments and the latest techniques. This has improved my personal knowledge in preparation for resuming education.

As an individual, I am highly adaptable in all situations as a result of caring for children who require my support entirely as well as encourage independence in children who this would benefit. My experience of life has taught me to be respectful to the children, parents and colleagues in my life and to maintain good working relationships. I aim to be highly cooperative and congenial at all times. This dedication and professional attitude over the years has gained trust, respect and satisfaction from my co-workers and I remain in close contact to all of them. . I am also a good team player but know how to take charge and be a leader when necessary.

I fully understand that Nursing is a way of life and more than simply a career. As a mother, I can adhere to the absolute commitment that this career requires. However, I also believe the intense pressure of a nursing career means you need to maintain a sense of humor alongside a sense of responsibility and respect in order to create a happy and positive working environment.

To relax, I like to keep healthy by going to the gym and swimming. I am currently teaching the youngest of my children how to swim.

I want to develop myself in this medical field mainly because of a born-desire I have to care for children and my aptitude to succeed and learn.
